Miami University students returned to campus for fall semester

Move-in Day 2024

Miami University students and their families moved in to the Oxford campus throughout Aug. 22-23 in anticipation of the fall semester.

Historically held on Thursdays, this year's primary move-in day was shifted to Friday, Aug. 23, in an effort to enhance the transition experience for students and their families.

Hundreds of volunteers and Miami staff members were on hand to help new students and families unload their belongings as they moved into their residence halls.

Nearly 4,330 first-year students were projected for Miami's Class of 2028, with new students arriving from 42 states (plus Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico) and more than 25 countries, counting the United States.

Nearly 4,330 projected first-year students joined the Miami family, moving into their residence halls on the Oxford campus with the help of volunteers and family.

Welcome Weekend

Miami's Welcome Weekend 2024 featured several events and activities, including Welcome Home on Friday, Aug. 23, that spanned across the Oxford campus.

Welcome Weekend events also included a roller rink in Armstrong Student Center, a host of activities on Cook Field, and a fireworks show behind Benton Hall.

From creating street signs to planting succulents, there were plenty of options for Miami students to enjoy their first weekend on campus.

Students experienced the climbing wall at the Rec Center, spent some time on Acton Lake at nearby Hueston Woods, and settled in for Saturday Under the Stars on Central Quad where they watched the movie "Minions" The Rise of Gru."

Convocation Sunday

On Sunday, Aug. 24, students gathered at Millett Hall for Love and Honor Convocation, where they celebrated the start of the academic year, received a class T-shirt, and learned the Miami fight song.

First day of classes

After Move-in Day and Welcome Weekend, students started class on Monday, Aug. 26, including one taught by Tracy Haynes, below, Shideler Hall.
