Miami University welcomed alumni back to the most beautiful campus that ever there was June 7-9. While nearly half of the 1,200 registered alumni were from Ohio, the other half traveled from 35 different states to visit Oxford for Alumni Weekend.
The Class of 1974 helped kick off Alumni Weekend on June 7 during the State of the University Address at Armstrong Student Center. Members of the 50-year class, including Reunion Committee Co-chairs Chuck Landes and Peggy Hamman Landes, presented Miami University President Greg Crawford with a class gift to Miami of almost $2.1 million.
The Class of 1974 celebrated its golden anniversary later that night with a reception and dinner. After a toast, President Crawford and University Ambassador Renate Crawford presented over 175 Miamians with medallions to commemorate their milestone anniversary.
More than 80 registered runners and walkers met at Lewis Place in the morning on June 8 for the Annual Toasted Roll 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk. About 20 future Miamians participated in the Kids Slant Walk Cinnamon Dash, which began at the Slant Walk gates and ended at Thobe’s Fountain.
Alumni from the last 72 years marched from The Hub to the Phi Delt Gates. This year’s parade grand marshals were representatives from the Western College Alumnae Association.
The Parade of Classes made its way Uptown, where Miamians gathered on the red bricks before enjoying food trucks galore and live music on the Uptown Park stage.
