From pre-semester events and Move-In Day for first-year students to Welcome Weekend and convocation

Miami University’s campuses are bustling with activity once again as students have returned, many of whom are getting their introduction to life at Miami.

Students from 39 countries are members of the Class of 2026. Miami's International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) hosted orientation and a week of events for first-year international students beginning Aug. 12.

The students were welcomed at a picnic with staff and faculty on Aug. 16.

Made @ Miami Opening Ceremony

MADE at Miami is a two-day, pre-semester program designed to bring together first-year students of color, international students, LGBTQ+ identifying students, and first-generation college students in order to prepare them for their collegiate career at Miami. The program begins 2 days before the large campus move-in, allowing students to acclimate to campus by building relationships, learning about campus resources, and developing a stronger sense of their identities. MADE is focused on the following values: Mentoring, Achievement, Diversity, and Excellence.

Move-In Day for First-Year Students

Most members of the Class of 2026 moved in to their residence halls August 18. Projected to have more than 4,100 members, this year’s first-year class features students from 44 states, plus Washington D.C., and 39 countries.

Below, staff and student volunteers are ready to help new students and their families move in.

Late Night Miami

First Night Block Party

New students were treated to the First Night Block Party events Aug. 18.

Welcome Home Events

Held the day after Move-In and one of the biggest events of the year organized by Miami Activities and Planning (MAP), Welcome Home Events Aug. 19 offered something for everyone.

The night was capped by a fireworks display behind Benton Hall. Check out the time lapse video of the fireworks, below.

Class of 2026 Convocation

The Love & Honor Convocation capped Welcome Week events Aug. 21.

Due to rain, the event, originally planned to be held in Yager Stadium, was moved to Millett Hall, where spirits were high.

Students signed the Code of Love and Honor, met representatives from campus offices, learned Miami's fight song and took a Class of 2026 photo.

Below, new students were welcomed by the Miami University Marching Band and cheerleaders.
