Honoring our fall graduates

Miami University conferred more than 1,000 degrees on Dec. 12 at Millett Hall as part of its 2025 Fall Commencement ceremony.

Miami University held its 2025 Fall Commencement ceremony on Dec. 12 at Millett Hall.

At the ceremony, 710 bachelor degrees, 253 master’s degrees, 51 associate degrees, 27 certificates, and 25 doctorate degrees were expected to be conferred.

Top bachelor degrees included Accountancy (56), Biology (34), Finance (33), and Small Business Management (30). There were degree candidates from 37 states, with the most hailing from Ohio (697), followed by Illinois (46) and California (35).

For those who earned bachelor degrees, nearly 14% graduated with cum laude honors, 11% magna cum laude, and 7% summa cum laude.

A special graduation

Allen McConnell, below left, delivered the commencement address. McConnell received this year's Benjamin Harrison Medallion, which is awarded annually for extraordinary and sustained contributions related to teaching, research, and service. McConnell is an experimental social psychologist whose research examines how relationships with family and pets affect health and well-being, how self-nature representations promote environmental stewardship, and how people form impressions of others.

Miami conferred three honorary degrees at the ceremony, awarded to Jim Bonaminio ’71, founder and CEO of Jungle Jim’s International Market; Rosemary Holoviak Fisher ’69, retired educator from Philadelphia’s Neshaminy School District; and Lee Fisher ’68, retired finance director in the transportation industry. Honorary degree recipients are recognized for their distinguished achievements in their respective endeavors and for the contributions their accomplishments make to the life of the university and the betterment of society.
